JONATHAN GREER

Check out the exclusive interview movie with Pro BMX rider Jonathan Greer below...
Give us a little background on your BMX riding?
I have been riding BMX bikes for over 10 years and been competing in pro events since I was 13. I was probably about 4 or 5 years old when I first started to perform jumps on my little bicycle.
How was your life growing up?
I was born into a Christian family and my parents taught me about Jesus when I was a little kid. I believed in Jesus when I was young. I would pray and God would answer my prayers. He revealed Himself to me in such simple ways when I was a child. But even with this knowledge, all through my high school years I would still test out the world seeing what it had to offer. My last year of high school I went to a church camp and realized that I needed to live my life 100% for God. He was the only thing worth living for.
How has it been representing God as a Pro Rider?
The Christian walk is not easy because it goes against all the theories and all the ways of the world. Everybody deals with their flesh and ways to satisfy temporary pleasures and things that have no lasting results. The Christian walk is not leaning on your own understanding but believing in God which most often goes against all the ways of the world around us. God is the only thing that is true. So you got to stand firm on what you know to be true and what brings real freedom.
How would you encourage this generation to stand strong?
I would encourage this generation to just put your faith in God and not in the things of the world. Not to worry about what other people think. What can man do to you? They could kill you and you could end up in God's presence, but God's got His hand on you, and He has you where He wants you if you’re living for Him.
What kind of riding do you enjoy?
I really enjoy riding empty swimming pools, street and skate parks. In this type of riding one has to have a measure of faith in what you're attempting. You have to be able to visualize stuff and see what you're doing in your mind before you actually do it, and then you have to go and try it with confidence to be able to complete the stunt. There is just so much faith involved as most often we are attempting moves that have not been done so really have to fully commit or die.
Are there consequences in BMX?
There is a consequence when you don't commit. Say you're doing a back flip or something and you flake out half way. You could easily break your neck. Commitment and faith go hand in hand--you can’t commit half hearted or you’ll get really hurt.
How would you relate BMX riding to the Christian faith?
I would definitely say that if you are trying to walk with Jesus, but you're not walking in faith and trusting God you're going to have a challenging time. You need to trust God 100% in all areas of your life. God says if you seek Him, He's going to show you the way. Knock and He's going to open the door. Truly seek the things that actually matter to Him.
How would you like to be remembered?
I want people to know me as a servant of the Lord. Not only as a good bike rider, but somebody who used the talents that God gave them to share the love of Jesus with other people and somebody who used the life that God gave them to effectively share His Love and the abundant life you can have in Him. Bicycle riding to me is just something that I love to do. It's something God gave me the gift to do and it's an opportunity to share Jesus with other people.

Jon is just one of many individuals that are walking in Faith. Faith that God is in control of his life. As we hear the sound of a young man standing uncompromised and walking in true faith, the call goes out to us as a generation, to raise the standard of Truth, to live a life for our King and as we do this to remember the Xtreme Life slogan- If you don’t go; You’ll never know.
